Actually, I do use SDL, but only because DirectX is so obtuse.  The 
availability of stuff like SDL is why I only penalize MSVC mildly for item 
#5.  That said, using SDL is not cost-free.  As Joel on Software would say, 
it introduces certain leaky abstractions that I've occasionally had to fight 
with, either on my game's side or by modifying the SDL code itself.
