I read that column and was astounded by its arrogance and inaccuracies. I even posted on it: http://bbrathwaite.wordpress.com/2007/12/04/qantm-heap/

I wouldn't roll the industry in with him either for all kinds of reasons. There are lots of game developers who thing such statements are silly.
