I'd actually recommend against someone from a Uni (at least in the US) getting involved with getting the old survey back out there, since then we're talking about IRB and such things.

However, long term, that might be a good thing to have happen. But like Jason says, go the easiest route sooner and come back with a different tool based on that updated information.
