FDG 2012 invites PhD students to apply to the Doctoral Consortium, a forum
to provide PhD students with early feedback on their research directions,
from fellow students, researchers, and experienced faculty in the area. The
consortium is intended primarily for PhD students who intend to pursue a
career in academia, who will soon propose, or have recently proposed, their
research. To apply, doctoral students should submit a CV, a 3-page extended
abstract describing their proposed research, and a support letter from
their PhD advisor. Approximately 5 students will be invited, and will
receive scholarships toward conference registration and travel expenses.
Invited Doctoral Consortium students will give a 15 minute presentation on
their work to the consortium committee, who will provide detailed feedback
on their ideas. DC students will also be invited to present a poster on
their DC abstracts during the general poster session. Accepted DC abstracts
will appear in the conference proceedings.

All students accepted into the Doctoral Consortium will be expected to
attend both the conference and the consortium. Interested students should
submit a CV and a 3-page extended abstract that is a research proposal
describing a promising unexplored research direction, and should discuss:

1. The goals of your proposed PhD research

2. Why those goals are important and who they would be important to

3. How your approach differs from previous approaches, if any

4. Your current results, if any

5. Plans for completing this research
