[game_edu] opic Of the Week - Education Conferences -- and Outcomes Assessment

For me, GDC is still the most important conference to attend. It's where the industry is, so if the goal is industry relevance - as it is with the majority of my students - that's where I've gotta be. (Full disclosure: I'm a co-adviser to the Edu Summit there, but even just the main conference is useful.)

Small regional conferences (wherever they are) are also wonderful: lower cost / great value for us and students, and a more relaxed atmosphere means you get to actually spend more than a few seconds saying hi to each other, compared to the faster pace of the big conferences.

As for outcome assessment, closest I can think of is the Curriculum Framework: http://www.igda.org/wiki/images/e/ee/Igda2008cf.pdf

I have been on the board of the Game Education Summit for several years and found them to be quite instructive--

On an other note. In a few minutes I have a meeting with a person from the Outcomes Assessment office. They want access to Outcome Assessment parameters, measures and standards used by other institutions. Does IGDA have anything like this? Could anyone point me to examples? Thanks, Elena

Subject: [game_edu] Topic Of the Week - Education Conferences

Hello SIG Members!

We are starting a new discussion area here at the Edu SIG…a Topic of the Week. This is common with other groups and I hope it will be successful here.

With so many education conferences to attend, let’s talk about which ones you prefer and why.

I know that budget is an issue, what about location or whether you have a paper to present.

We look forward to your responses!

Best,
Suzanne
