=============================================
Faculty Position in Interactive Storytelling and Game Design
School of Computer Science
Reykjavik University

The School of Computer Science at Reykjavik University seeks to hire a
faculty member for a new academic position in the field of interactive
narrative and game design. We are interested in an ambitious, highly
qualified academic who can combine innovative teaching and cutting-edge
research in the rapidly evolving area of interactive digital
entertainment within our school.

The teaching will be part of a relatively new emphasis line on computer
game development, offered within the undergraduate computer science
program, and will complement existing programming and HCI courses by
focusing on game design concepts. We prefer candidates that combine
theory, such as ludology or interaction design, and practice, such as
rapid game prototyping and testing. The ability to teach technical
aspects of game development as well, such as computer graphics, game
engine architecture or game programming, is a significant benefit.

The faculty position is funded through a collaboration with massively
multiplayer game developer CCP Games Inc. CCP is a world leading
developer of massive sandbox-like game worlds, where conventional game
design and storytelling methods fall short. We are particularly
interested in active researchers who see opportunities in breaking new
ground with CCP and with existing faculty within Reykjavík University,
in particular within CADIA, the school's artificial intelligence
research center (http://cadia.ru.is). CCP will fund the faculty position
for a minimum of 5 years; following that period, CCP and Reykjavík
University will seek continued funding for the position. Full academic
freedom is respected, however, by both CCP and Reykjavík University.

Candidates will be expected to play a full part in the teaching,
research and administrative activities of the School. They are expected
to have a proven international record relevant to the above-mentioned
area, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and presentations at
acclaimed international academic and industrial venues; a Ph.D. degree
in a relevant area is required. An interdisciplinary background that
combines technology, science, art and design, is a definite advantage.

The level of the position can range from assistant professor to full
professor, depending on the qualifications of the applicant. Salary
level is negotiable and relocation assistance is offered. The position
is available starting in the summer/fall 2013, but later starting dates
can be negotiated. We reserve the right to refuse all applications and
advertise again at a later date.

The application deadline is 30 April 2013 and interviews will be held in
May 2013. Application letters should be sent by email to
application at scs.ru.is (subject "Game Design"), and should include:

* A full CV with a list of all major accomplishments.
* Copies of three to five major international publications and/or
presentations,
* Research statement,
* Teaching statement, and
* Other relevant information the applicant wishes to supply.

Please arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent
directly to application at scs.ru.is.

Informal communication and discussions on any aspect related to the
position are encouraged, and interested candidates are welcome to
contact the Administrative Director of the School of Computer Science,
Sigrún María Ammendrup (sma at ru.is), for further information.

The School of Computer Science at Reykjavik University has about 700
students and 16 permanent staff members. The school offers undergraduate
and graduate programs, at the PhD and Masters levels, in computer
science, discrete mathematics and software engineering.
