The Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at Carnegie Mellon University invites 3D artist professionals to apply for a full-time, teaching track position at the ETC. While preferred, an advanced degree is not required for candidates with extensive professional experience in 3D computer graphics in games primarily, and additional film experience secondarily, with an emphasis on current professional pipeline production practices and a basis in artistic and animation fundamentals.

The ETC at CMU (http://etc.cmu.edu/) is the premiere professional graduate program for interactive entertainment as it is applied across a variety of fields. The ETC offers a unique two-year Masters in Entertainment Technology degree that is jointly conferred by the School of Computer Science and the College of Fine Arts. At the ETC, graduate students work in interdisciplinary teams and create engaging interactive experiences through semester-long projects that originate from external clients, faculty research, grants, or student pitches. Projects focus on learning, health, training and social impact; and develop games, animation, location-based installations, augmented reality, mobile devices, robotics, interactive performances, transmedia storytelling and more. We emphasize leadership, innovation and communication by creating challenging experiences through which students learn how to collaborate, experiment, and iterate solutions. Entertainment Technology Center is simply different, we strive to design experiences that educate, engage and inspire.

Ideal candidates for this position have an active interest in 3D art, animation and computer graphics as it is applied on teams in both video games and film, have a high level of artistic expertise developing 3D experiences (with 2D experience a plus), and have teaching, research and professional experience in this area. Ideal candidates have experience with various 3D modeling software packages such as Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya, Blender, Houdini, Nuke, Mudbox and ZBrush, and have professional experience in modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, and lighting.

Industry experience is expected. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, service, supervising student projects, critiquing student portfolios and demo reels, helping recommend the best artistic tools and process, and continued creative activities and scholarship in the field. The position begins Fall of 2015. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
