Please feel free to join the newly announced Research and Creative
Collaborative in Inclusive Game Design (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/194870884223693/)!

Inclusive game design is the process of actively involving players and
community members in determining their own representations in games. The
University of Minnesota's Research and Creative Collaborative in Inclusive
Game Design holds discussions, research studies, and game jams to advance
inclusive game design.

Vision and Mission:
Digital games are a powerful medium for expression with their unique
layering of play, story, art, and audio brought about through design and
code. Increasingly, due to their growing popularity, games have been used
in fields including health, education, and social impact. Such games often
also focus on diverse players (e.g. youth communities, women, and
Indigenous communities). Inclusive game design is a rising approach to game
development that refers to more directly involving players and community
members represented in a game in the design and creation of that game. The
intention of inclusive game design is to ensure that the game first and
foremost meets the needs of the players, responds to and addresses issues
that the community deems important, and more directly respects players as
creators rather than simply consumers.

The Research and Creative Collaborative in Inclusive Game Design will
actively engage in inclusive game design by enabling players of firstly
learning games and secondly Indigenous games to get involved in game
development through two unique game jams that bring together designers,
scholars, players, and community members.
