[CIS PIDD] [cis-pidd] SubQ first dose

We typically give an IV dose (in the clinic if it is the first time receiving IG, otherwise at home), then one week later start SC. We give the first 2 doses in the clinic. Mostly to evaluate the patient's technique of administration and to counsel them regarding problems with the pump, tubing and local reactions. While the home care companies are all too willing to "train" the patients in the home, I have had very poor experiences with this training. Most of the nurses have little or no experience with SC infusion, and despite being told of the training video available from the IDF website few of them have watched it. It is an ongoing problem as they are also unable to correctly counsel a patient who is having difficulties with their infusions. In general they are unaware of proper needle placement, differences in needle sets and the correct flow rate tubing for administration of 20% IG.

If others have had better success in getting the home care companies to be responsive to training their staff, let me know!
