[CIS PIDD] abnormal placenta and fetal loss

We encountered a patient on the MFM (maternal fetal medicine) service who lost a pregnancy in the mid-second trimester.  The only findings were fetal growth restriction and chronic histiocytic intervillositis.  Has anyone in the immunology community studied such cases?   From a histologic perspective it appears to be a maternal immune response to paternal antigen(s) expressed by the fetus (placenta) or perhaps some other mechanism for a maternal inflammatory response.

Appreciate your help with this question.  Thanks much.
