[sbe-eas] NWS EAS Question

Last fall we bought 22 brand new DASDEC IIIs to replace our former aging units. The previous units were easily overloaded by collocated high power FM stations, including intermod to NWS frequencies. At a couple locations we had four FM traps in line to reduce the undesired levels to the point where reception of more distant stations was possible, both NWS and FM.

We found the new DASDECs suffer pretty much the same situation and are still having to use the traps. At some point we may buy some of the Inovonics INOmini 635s which we tested and found to be bulletproof, or try some of the new model 677 receivers which I imagine would work similarly well.

With the traps in place we occasionally miss a test but it’s rare.

Hi all – just a suggestion to send a message to support at digitalalertsystems.com <mailto:support at digitalalertsystems.com> if you are noting any RF reception issues.

If you are trying to poll the NWS CAP 1.0 feed (for some reason?) there are known issues with that feed.

Greeting Chris,

I just checked a DASDAC II here in WA State. The box is running SW v4.3-0 - no problems with receiving NWS RWTs via the internal VHF receiver. March 20th & March 27th were the most recent receptions logged.

Best regards,

Hello!

Has anyone received any reports of difficulties receiving NWS alert messages on DASDEC’s? Our local office has gotten a few complaints about missing tests, and the common theme seems to be that the stations are DASDEC users. One station reports software version 5.2-1.

Thanks,
