[SBE] Industry retirement situation

I have to chime in on this one. While I agree with almost everything
that has been said, the very last point devalues what can be done at
the local chapter level.

As chapter chair I found many companies willing to come in and do
educational talks or even full seminars for free. They carried the
burden of most of the costs, and where they fell short local vendors
stepped in to fill the gap, including covering meal costs.

Granted, organizing this took no small investment of my time, but as
local leadership isn't that the job that needs to be done? This kind
of 'continuing education' can be incredibly valuable to the members
who may not have access to the budgets necessary for 'real' training,
and it raises the overall level of the local talent pool. It's also a
great way to get people who may not normally be interested in our
field to come to a meeting and learn about the biz. Heck, they might
even learn that many of us can speak Bacchi AND English!

Of course, if you have the money the programs made available by SBE
and other industry organizations are well worth the investment.

...putting the cork back in...
