[SBE] activating inactives

How about SBE gets involved with BICSI and provides a broadcaster oriented core under their program. Localities, regulators, trades and other professionals seem to recognize the BICSI certification for low voltage competence. There in lies part of the problem, that we touch both LV, MV and HV. But states are getting strict about LV certification. The Arc/Flash rules actually preclude some of what we regularly do without specialized tools and training. SBE should be enforcing the regulations, rather than not addressing them at all.

BICSI is a recognized standard for telecomm integration and some vendors now offer BICSI certified products.

I think SBE has to decide what it wants to represent, be it operating engineers, telecomm technicians, engineering managers, whatever, and then focus on that. SBE should decide what part of the national standards for construction, safety, electrical codes etc they wish to be involved in. There are orgs such as NATE that we should be invovled with. There are parts of NFPA code that apply to broadcast but of which probably 95% of the membership is either unaware or unwilling to enforce. Part of the problem that I see is we are not defining what it is that SBE represents, so its value to employee, employer and contractor is diminished.
