[SBE] What happens to the tuners when a new sub-channel is added?

This may sound stupid, but I don't have any digital tuners at home yet.

If our program stream gets added to a station's digital line up as
another sub-channel, will it automatically show up in all the tuners
that had previously scanned the main channel or will everyone have to
re-scan to get our channel?

I assume anyone that scanned before the main channel was on has to
re-scan but I wasn't sure about just adding a new sub-channel.  Has
anyone experienced new sub-channels showing up without re-scanning?
