Put me down also as a "no" vote for the FM chip. Ten years ago, I seem to remember being told radio was moving towards a digital means of broadcasting to the masses ("IBOC", I think the old-timers called it), which would finally put AM on parity with FM. 

No matter one's feelings about digital radio in general or in specifics, this ain't helping.
