Jon,

I am a big fan of ENCO. I specified the system that was purchased for WTOP and its sister stations. I have long been a fan of the product.

I love how they handle drag and drop needs for file transfer.

They talk to many 3rd party apps. They talk to AP NewsDesk very well.

When I did my research for Bonneville's purchase, I had a list of questions for each vendor. Given that we had a News and a CHR that would use the system, one question became the deal breaker when many answers were similiar. And Gene Novaceck answered it correctly...

Q: We often get music and news content via email. Often late in the day, sometimes late in the week. Sometimes the content needs to run in 48 hours or less and we may not have a driver for a new file format. How long does it take you to turn around a driver for a new file format?

A: If I can't get it to you by COB of the next business day, you can pick me up at the airport in the morning.

His answer was BINGO!

The other vendors all said 'our standard lead for patches is 2 weeks'

Gene also treats his software as open-source,,,so any improvements for one guy get populated to everyone almost immediately, not just in a future release.

I have not touched the product in a few years, but I think you will be very happy with it.

Talk to Don Backus, remind him that he once said when you are tired enough, you can be convinced AC and DC are the same thing.
