Actually. Trichlorotrifluoroethane Used a lot during the 70s and early 80s.
When I was in the Navy we got the stuff in gallon cans or spray and you
could use it manually with paint brushes and towels or put it in the vat of
your ultrasonic cleaner. Commercially it was usually available in spray
cans. Unfortunately it¹s really hard on your respiratory system and has
since been classified as a hazardous substance. But it sure did make short
work of dirt and oil... It¹s still available (do a Google search on Freon
TF) but has fallen out of general use due to the potential hazards.
