Back in the 70's we had an electron beam film recorder (3M) and as I recall
the HV supply was in a tub of freon TF. We used it to clean all the path
parts and bearings. 5 gallon cans we transferred to plastic squeeze bottles
and lintless small swabs. If you had an old 179 or other flaking tape you
just poured it on and it cleaned the quad head as it played, or you would wet
your thumb and thumb the head wheel just enough to rub the dirt off. Worked
on film too.
