temperatur...A good friend of mine who worked for our electric utility in
the "outside plant" department used to wash his hands in PCB oil when there
weren't any restrooms available in the middle of nowhere.  Then he'd eat his
lunch.

Died of old age at a ripe old age.

Moral of our little story?  Don't violate Federal guidelines and don't burn
PCB oil.  But do have lunch.

  So this is a game of one-upmanship of exposure to toxics?
  While doing repairs, we had our hands fully immersed in PCB laden oil,
used to cool the large high-current contactors in a 1948 vintage 50kw xmtr.
  Our cleaner of choice was xylol, which will melt many plastics into a blob
of goo.

  These days, we can't even fly into a job with a can of Blue Shower, or
ship it ahead, either.

    Well, I can only remember using MEK for everything - that stuff could
clean a sharpie pen off plastic like no one's business.



    I think that twitch I get every now and then, is because of that stuff.



    The twitch doesn't explain the voices I hear though . huh .

    Ahh, the good old Navy days.  Between Trichlorotrifluoroethane and
PD-680 you could clean anything!

    Actually. Trichlorotrifluoroethane Used a lot during the 70s and early
80s. When I was in the Navy we got the stuff in gallon cans or spray and you
could use it manually with paint brushes and towels or put it in the vat of
your ultrasonic cleaner. Commercially it was usually available in spray
cans. Unfortunately it's really hard on your respiratory system and has
since been classified as a hazardous substance. But it sure did make short
work of dirt and oil... It's still available (do a Google search on Freon
TF) but has fallen out of general use due to the potential hazards.
