Years ago this would have been a very good idea.

But Ma Bell no longer owns the phones, and the cost to a member of the
public to have Ma Bell try to work on the "guts" of an electronic
telephone -- astronomical -- it they will at all.

Ah, for the days of the "good old" 2500 phones!!

  I would leave the phones to Ma Bell and her agents.  The locals know to
put caps in the phones. Cut your risk to zero.
