[SBE] Fondly remembering the Tungar Bulb --

Tungar Bulb?

I used to use a battery charger that had one.

Made lots and lots of hash!

And had enough mercury in the bulb that today a broken one would probably
(legally) require haz-mat cleanup!

That was just over 40 years ago at KGGM (AM) [many call letter changes
since] .

When I took (and passed) my 2nd Telegraph test my favorite question was
"What is the electrolyte in a liquid rectifier?"

In the "real world" there are several correct answers. One can be found at
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/1671970.pdf.

The test papers were so old the edges were quite browned, and the staple was
rusted.

And here in the high desert of New Mexico, nothing rusts!

How the technology has changed!
