[SBE] In Need of Mentoring

In the old days, if you knew RF, you were guaranteed a job. Maybe not
one that paid real well, but you could still find work. But two years
ago, before the economy imploded, I friend of mine searched for 9 months
before he could find another chief engineer gig. This was due to media
consolidation, the station he was working for before got swallowed up,
and management said we don't need two engineers.

Nowadays, you need strong IT skills as computers and networking are
showing up everywhere in the broadcast plant, not just the billing,
payroll department, or even radio automation, computers and
microprocessors are now a staple at transmitter sites.

I still think you'll need more than just a high school diploma, however,
I've built my contract engineering business with just a two year AA
degree from a community college.
