Yep, looks like I forgot to compress it.  Since I don't normally use Quicktime, I'm in a bit of uncharted territory.

The client just wanted to have a QT version of the file available in case his clients asked for it.

Nothing, maybe. You simply changed the codec and "exploded" the file. Try it
again, and look carefully at the codec choice."None" or uncompressed will
weigh about 1 gig per minute, "animation" a little less, and "DV" even less.
You could also try a flavor of H264, which will be very small.

 

What does your client need to do with the file? If it's just watching it,
then H264 is fine, if it needs to be edited further, then one of the other
choices would be more appropriate.

I'm not a full time video production guy, but the occasional job comes up.

I had a request from a client to take a 5 minute (20MB) Windows Media video
clip and convert it to Quicktime.  Easy enough, I thought.

I was able to easily import it into Vegas 5 (my current platform), then
"Render As" Quicktime.

A couple hours (!) later, it finishes, but the finished Quicktime file
weighs in at 13GB!

What did I do wrong??
