Any voice recognition software/hardware combo people trust? Most of the content is live presentations that need to be captioned in real time for HD closed circuit broadcast.

Thanks.

Jeremy

I work extensively in the deaf/hard-of-hearing community – having a 45 dB hearing loss myself! We use actual live persons who can/usually are be at a remote location – they use a converted stenotype machine to real-time caption meetings we hold with deaf persons. They’re absolutely amazing! We Skype our conference room table audio to the transcriber – the captioning comes back in real time via the/an Internet Broadband connection.

To learn more, I suggest you call the Executive Director of a local non-profit organization for which I’m a Board member.

She’ll be very helpful. Please use my name.

Your contact? Romy Pierce at ATS Resources, (505) 222-0608.

The services she can recommend will likely cost lots less than an investment in hardware and software – and is a completely “on demand” service!

Here’s a description from one web site:

Realtime Closed Captioning: Realtime closed captions are performed by a highly skilled stenographer called a realtime captioner. The captioner utilizes captioning software that formats the realtime text into captions and sends it via a modem or cable to an encoder.

Good luck!

Mike

that seems to be what most people are doing. I'm not sure if the client would be up for that, but it's worth floating out there. I'm trying to see if any of the voice recognition software/hardware platforms are worth the trouble installing in this one-man-band operation scenario. It would be kick-ass if a manufacturer like Link or EEG had a box that did that reliably.

Thanks for the input.

We looked at several automated boxes and could not find any that we more than 70% accurate. If it is the same voice every time a software call “Naturally Speaking” does a good job, but only after a lot of tweaking. We ended up going with a company named Caption First, and they do a great job. They phone in through a Gentner unit to listen to our broadcast and connect to a Link Electronics box for the insertion. Works great, and cheaper than hiring your own stenographer to sit there and do it on site.

Tom

This is great news. As I am not able to regularly attend meetings, and the "chapter on the air" is a bit far for my dipole, I am excited to be a part of the Echolink net.

There has been a major addition made to the Great Lakes IRLP SBE Reflector 9615. This conference bridge is now in tandem with an Echolink conference bridge.
You may connect to the conference bridge from the Echolink side, by looking for the "SBE" reflector, or conference bridge # 310390.
The two conference bridges are tied together all time. If you come in on the IRLP side on 9615, you will also go out on the Echolink side and vice versa.

If your local repeater has an EchoIRLP node, I recommend that you use the IRLP link as the audio quality is better. But if you would like to be at home and get into the Broadcast Engineering "bridge", you can simply install your own Echolink system.

This reflector has been set aside for broadcast engineering related ham to ham talk. Just about anything broadcast related is encouraged. There is a formal SBE net on the air twice a month, look at :

Now does this satisfy Section 508? Any traps I should be aware of?

Thanks.
