[SBE] Hamnets

I remember clearly all the blood and sweat on the floor of that examining room of the FCC office in the Earl J. Cabell Federal Building in downtown Dallas... a single bulb hanging from a wire, the sadistic laugh of the examiner, those hard bakelite headphones, the requirement for one minute out of five of solid copy...

All things considered, I think I was a lot more upset by the funneling of all First and Second Phone licensees into the single "Generic Radiotelephone License" than I was by the no-code Amateur Extra. Where it comes to ham radio, the more the merrier!

Yes, now that the code requirement is gone, it's not as bad. I took the "Heavy Extra" as some of us call it with the 20 WPM. At that time, there was not that much technical stuff in the Extra written exam compared to the Advanced class license, most of the Extra class questions seemed to relate to giving license exams, as only Extra class
licensees could be a volunteer examiner. I have no idea what the Extra
class question pool is like now.
