Dan,
I don't remember the manufacturer, but the antenna is familiar. I think I even have one out in the garage. Several years ago, Civil Air Patrol bought several of these. They are functionally just like a Ringo only physically different. There is nothing sacred about the ring, It's just a method of matching. The antenna you describe should have an adjustable tap connected to the coax feed point to the bottom loop for matching. Tune up would be similar to the Ringo Ranger. I don't remember it being any different from the Ringo in performance.
Good luck.
Bill

Subject: [SBE] Antenna I.D.

To the Group:

I'm looking for some help in identifying an antenna. I recently received a 161 MHz RPB base antenna that was removed from a tower after many years of service. The antenna is generally in good shape and should still be serviceable. There are no identifying labels on the antenna.

The best way to describe it is that it resembles a commercial version of a Ringo, except that where a Ringo has a closed loop stub near the middle and a ring at the bottom, this antenna has a closed loop stub at the bottom as well.

Is anyone familiar with this antenna? Could you point me to a manufacturer / model?

Thanks,
Dan Rapak
