The University of Alabama, on behalf of the Center for Public Television and Radio and WVUA23, seeks applications from dynamic individuals interested in assuming a leadership position as Director of Engineering and Technical Services at the University's Digital Media Center. Housed within the University's Bryant Denny Stadium, the DMC is home to the University's professional media assets and a state-of-the-art, hands-on laboratory for students.  As part of the College of Communication and Information Sciences, the DMC engages faculty, staff and students in the production of award-winning, multi-media programming designed to inspire, educate, and inform Alabamians.

This position functions as chief engineer and technology officer for:  Alabama Public Radio, a public radio network reaching approximately 80 percent of the state;  the Center for Public Television, a production center for both non-commercial and commercial multi-media series and specials;  and WVUA23,  one of just two full power commercial stations in the country licensed to a university. The position is required to maintain a high operational standard relative to technological innovation, strategic investigation of current and emerging distribution platforms, maintenance and upkeep of various broadcast and computer technologies, compliance with FCC broadcast regulations and general knowledge of digital broadcast, mobile, computer  and online industries. As a member of the senior management team, the position is a hands-on leader who supervises, trains and evaluates a staff of broadcast, operations, and IT engineers and technicians in keeping all facilities in top-notch condition and positioned for future development.

Salary range is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Supplemental life, dental, vision, and disability insurance are available at group rates.

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of broadcast operations and advanced technology experience required. Prefer Society of Broadcast Engineers certification; FCC First or General Class license; experience with high power UHF transmission plants; excellent computer skills and good understanding of IP based LAN, WAN and Internet based systems.
