I have a Windows 7 64bit system and it was pretty easy to install and
run the XPmode virtual system with the following easy instructions.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7

Using a USB to serial adapter and a null modem I was able to run
promlink to my Data I/O 29b Unipak and read/write eproms, save the data
and have them verified with romident.
