Manual here http://www.mcmelectronics.com/content/ProductData/Manuals/94-410.pdfTips http://www.mmccs.com/mmarc/n0ss/hakko_808_notes.pdf

The manual says the heater should measure 40-50 ohms on the 120v model and 210-270 on 240v models. If that looks good I'd check the temp control pot.

Subject: [Techtoolslist] Maybe OT: Hakko 808

Hi,

I know this is not exactly on topic but I suspect that a
lot of list members here have a Hakko 808 desoldering
tool.  I plugged mine in today and it stayed cold.  The
pump works fine, so I know it has power.  The heater seems
to be in good shape so I suspect the circuit board that
supplies current to the heater.  I've tried measuring the
voltage on the red wires that supply the heater, both AC
and DC and there doesn't seem to be much there.  Does
anyone here know (or could check) what the voltage on the
red wires should be?  Or maybe the heater is bad and the
board doesn't provide any current if it is open (or short).
A value for the resistance across the heater would be good
to know too.  Has anybody here had a similar experience
and knows a quick easy fix?

Thanks,
Bill Sudbrink
