[Techtoolslist] Fluke 9000 Pod (Z80) UUT ribbon cable (Pat Danis)

Some (if not most) of the repro units use a 40 pin flat ribbon cable for the Z80 UUT Cable.

I have made the following:
1. UUT pcb for a straight through 40 way ribbon cable to single pod header;
2. A (almost universal using jumpers) UUT pcb for a dual 40 way ribbon cable to dual pod header;
3. A UUT pcb for 68000, 64 pin dual 64 way ribbon cable to dual pod header;
4. Replacement protection modules to suit almost all pods;
5. Replacement module for custom protection ic;
6. Replacement module for the precision resistor array.

The UUT cable adapters can use straight ribbon cable or twisted pair (like the original fluke cables) to improve signal quality and noise immunity. I have been slow in getting these properly tested (initial quick tests were ok) so they are not released yet.

I was also working on an easier way (than the original hand wired fluke cables) to do the Z80 cable you mention - a UUT pcb dual 40 way ribbon cable to a single pod header (for better signal quality). I was looking at adding a small pcb at the pod end to go from the dual 40 way ribbon cable back to a single header with the appropriate shield wires grounded.

As well as repairing some Fluke 9010A mainframes and Pods, I have repaired some Fluke UUT connectors (with broken pins) and dismantled and inspected to the pod header cable like on the Z80 that uses dual UUT 40 wire twisted pair cables.

So, yes your UUT cable can be repaired but is a little fiddly.

I hope to get around to doing more testing to be able to release the UUT Cable assemblies or parts soon.

Regards,
John

Happy New Year to all!

There's not much in my TTL archive about this, and varying opinions/options upon web searches but I wanted to see what the current thought are on this topic?? I have a Z80 pod that works depending on how you position the pod/cable.? If it's working you can twist the cable slightly at the pod and it will stop working. I have pulled it apart and did notice that the upper level ground foil did split and I bridged this will wire/solder.? Still seems to be doing failing.? The 40 pin dip side seems fine - any options?? Has anyone re-terminated the pod side?? Any replacements available?? I see some pages reference just using a 40 pin flat cable - has anyone tried this and if so what are your experiences?

Thanks,
Greg

I believe Raymond Jett (Channelmanic or Channelmaniac on other forums) sourced some of that cable. I don?t know if he is on here. I will ask and see if he has any left
