2010 CENSUS:

As complete a count as possible is vital to funding we receive and I'm
asking Town Meeting Members to assist, in any way, in advocating and
encouraging residents to fill out and return the census when they receive
it.  Whatever form(s) of communication your precinct employs would be
appreciated, as well as any suggestions and/or assistance.


The 2010 census will be out within the next week.

First, if you fill out and return the census, then no one will be knocking
on your door.

The results of the census determines what and how much funding Arlington
will receive from Federal funds, grants, etcetera.  It is very important for
Arlington to get as accurate numbers of residents, through the census, as we
possibly can.

We have a Census Committee established (I am a member) and would welcome
anyone's input and/or willingness to serve to work on getting the message
out and encouraging Arlington residents to fill out and return their census.

The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have
completed.  They have gathered information about every person living at each
address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant data.

1)     If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge,
a handheld device,  a Census  Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality
notice. You can ask to see their signed identification badge before
answering their questions.

2)     Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address
information.  Do not give your Social Security number, credit card or
banking information to anyone.  The Census Bureau will not ask for Social
Security, bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees solicit
donations.

They have signed a Confidential Notice, in which each employee has taken a
sworn oath, under penalties of substantial fines, to keep confidential any
information gathered about any individual.  This confidentiality extends
even to other branches of government.  No personal information gathered by
the Census may be disclosed, for example, to the FBI, Secret Service,
Homeland Security, IRS, etc., and, of course, not to any state or local
authorities.

Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail, or in person
at home. However, the Census Bureau will not contact you by E-mail, but that
will occur as part of the non-response follow-up effort.

Again if you could please share this information and pass it along
accordingly through any means of contact you have established.
