[Voxnovus] Gearing up for Valentine's Day

Gearing up for Valentine's Day a bunch of Love related topics.

Friday February 8th at 7:00 PM it starts with a CD release party at KGB of a
poetry/music compilation of which I collaborate with the poet Anne Cammon on
some lyrics about love and spirituality. The CD release BEAUTY KEEPS LAYING
ITS SHARP KNIFE AGAINST ME. can be purchased at:

Also that Friday night at 9:00 PM Anne Cammon's Art Waves on WKCR will be
playing songs on Love and Heartbreak, including my work "hunger" ad well as
some related 60x60 works from Eve Beglarian, Alex Shapiro, Heike Schmidt,
Jonathan Stone and others. Plus she will also be playing tracks from the CD
release mentioned above.

Then Monday February 11th at 7:30 PM it is the Love for Guitar. "Made in
Manhattan: Chamber Music with Guitar" at Manhattan School of music; a good
friend of mine and a great guitarist, Oren Fader, is going to be
participating. He has been especially good to Vox Novus so if you are in
the neighborhood you should drop on by.

And lastly on Valentine's Day at 10:00 PM we are having our 2nd XMV at
Collective: Unconscious with the theme of Love and its Discontents. They
only event with a $5 dollar cover, but we will be having a bit of an after
party to help soften the blow to your wallet.

MUSIC AND POETRY MEET IN THE MYSTIC, BAUDY AND WAR RAVAGED AS EIGHT POETS
RELATE THEIR EXPERIENCES OF BEAUTY IN THE NEW CD COLLECTION “BEAUTY KEEPS
LAYING ITS SHARP KNIFE AGAINST ME.”

FEBRUARY 8, 2008 FROM 7-9 PM (NEW YORK, NEW YORK) KGB Bar celebrates the CD
release of the Logochrysalis Production “Beauty Keeps Laying its Sharp Knife
Against Me” with a free party featuring performances by poets Brant Lyon,
E.J. Antonio, Frank Simone, Diana Gitesha Hernandez, Farid Bitar, Robin
Small-McCarthy, Hawley Hussey and Anne Cammon.

KGB Bar is located on 85 East 4th Street in New York. Admission is free.

Poets Include:

• Hawley Hussey hails from a lighthouse where pirates pay her in gold
doubloons and writes about sundry nautical affairs. Her work, “Coney Island
Break-Up Letters,” was recently performed alongside her visual art
installation at The Coney Island Museum.
• Frank Simone finds religion in the arms of a Cambodian woman during the
Vietnam War era. His work has been anthologized in America, published in
France and listed in the ”Top Ten Poetry Books of 2006” by About.Com.
• Diana Gitesha Hernandez began writing haikus at age nine and has been
spinning out poetry like spider-woven silk ever since. She is a poet,
songwriter and jazz singer who has been published in a Nuyorican Poets Café
Anthology, among others
• E.J. Antonio poetry speaks in rhythm to the blues and jazz with fierce
grace. She has been a featured reader at Cave Canem, Cornelia Street Café,
Harvard Club and more.
• Farid Bitar has lived through bloodshed and violence that still rages in
his beloved homeland, Palestine. Editor and translator of the Treasury of
Arabic Love, his work is published on Roguescholars.com.
• Anne Cammon sat in meditation in India, now hosts an experimental literary
radio show on WKCR FM NY. Collaborator, Rob Voisey, adds mystic
vocalization and electronic playback to Anne’s tracks on the CD. She has
been published widely in the US and abroad in The Quarterly Conversation,
KGB Magazine, Nth Position, Fly Global Music Culture and many others.
• Robin Small-McCarthy weaves electric, eclectic strands of poetry, music,
and song to promote peace, justice, love, and light. She is the co-founder
and resident muse of Kairos Poetry Café.
• Brant Lyon believes that—like the ancient mbiras of Africa—music and words
coming together have the power to summon the spirit/s. Founder of the
jazzoetry music and poetry series “Hydrogen Jukebox,” his work has appeared
in Rattle, BigCityLit and more.

Made in Manhattan: Chamber Music with Guitar

We've been working very hard on preparing for our very unusual and exciting
guitar concert coming up on Monday, February 11 at 7:30 pm in Borden
Auditorium of the Manhattan School of Music. I believe this will be an
extraordinary evening. "Made in Manhattan: Chamber Music with Guitar" is a
sampling of works of the last 25 years written here in Manhattan, and is
part of MSM's 90th anniversary celebration.

You will not often see/hear a classical guitar concert with so many people
involved. The entire guitar department, including all four faculty members
and students, along with some very fine guest artists, will be performing.
The grand finale is Electric Counterpoint by Steve Reich for 13 classical
guitars and 2 electric bass guitars. There is also the beautiful sextet,
Broken Consort, by Sebastian Currier for flute, oboe, violin, cello and two
guitars. And rounding out the program are 4 duos, two for voice and guitar
by Mark Delpriora and David Leisner, one for flute and guitar by Joan Tower,
and one for violin and guitar by Barbara Kolb. It's a distinguished
program, and a rare one.

LOVE AND ITS DISCONTENTS: EXPERIMENTAL NEW MUSIC FILMS FROM ARMENIA
DECONSTRUCT THE MUSCLE OF THE HEART FOR TRUE ROMANTICS.

FEBRUARY 14, 2008 FROM 10 PM-12 AM (NEW YORK, NEW YORK) Vox Novus presents
the second of its Experimental Video Series (XMV ) at Collective:
Unconscious in Tribeca featuring contemporary films selected by Robert
Voisey and guest curator Thea Farhadian.

Collective: Unconscious is located on 279 Church Street in New York.
Admission is $5.

This exciting new music video night presents the wide world of collaborative
video and music experimentation. From shorts to features, psychedelic to
abstract imagery, minimalism to edgy pop, and live performance mixed with
dynamic video projection, XMV runs the gambit of what not to expect in
experimental video and music.

Artists include:

• Thea Farhadian has been presented at Issue Project Room, Meridian
Gallery, Center for Experimental Art and Aram Kachaturyan Museum in Yerevan,
Armenia. She co-founded The Armenian Film Festival in New York.
• Ruth Eckland has appeared at A.I.R. Gallery, Meridian Gallery, The
Lab and many others. Kenneth Baker of the San Francisco Chronicle describes
her work as “a pleasure of immersion at moments close to the essence of
video as process.”
• Ellen Fullman’s music and video installations have been presented at
The Whitney Museum, performed by The Kronos Quartet, and presented at P.S.1
in Queens.
• Susan Zoccola, whose work has been called “visual poetry,” has been
presented at Kirkland Arts Center in, Broadway Performance Hall and the
Pacific NW Arts Council of Seattle Art Museum.
• Heike Liss is a German video artist who received the Herringer Prize
for Excellence in Art, among others.
