Vox Novus in collaboration with the Remarkable Theater Brigade and Jan Hus
Church is proud to present the 47th Composer's Voice Concert, a monthly
chamber concert series.
Sunday, April 25th at 1:00 PM featuring flutist, Rebecca Ashe, performing
the music of Lisa Bost-Sandberg, KyongMeeChoi, Ulf Grahn, Arthur Gottschalk,
Mike McFerron, Luca Vanneschi, Robert Voisey, and Ron Wray.

A new music performer and collaborator, flutist Rebecca Ashe has partnered
with several composers and has performed at several festivals, including
SEAMUS and the Electroacoustic Juke Joint. She is the featured artist for
the 2010 Electronic Music Midwest Conference in Joliet, Illinois. Dr. Ashe
is currently a faculty member at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
She earned her Bachelor degree in Applied Music (flute) at the Eastman
School of Music, where her principal teacher was Bonita Boyd. She earned
both Master of Musical Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the
University of Missouri -Kansas City, studying with Dr. Mary Posses. In 1998,
she was the only American and one of four flutists worldwide to be chosen
for Trevor Wye's prestigious one-year course in Kent, England. In 2003, Dr.
Ashe gave a recital at the Academy of Music in Riga, Latvia and was the
first American flutist to perform a recital at the Academy, which was
broadcast on national radio. She also gave a master class at the E. Darzins
Academy of Music, the most prestigious preparatory music school in Latvia.

KyongMeeChoi, composer, organist, painter, and visual artist, received
several awards including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation
Fellowship.

Arthur Gottschalk is a recipient of the Charles Ives Prize of the American
Academy of Arts and Letters and has been a Composer-in-Residence for the
Piccolo Spoleto Festival. He has been recently honored with Special
Recognition by the ASCAP Rudolph Nissim Awards, the First Prize of the
ConcorsoInternazionalediComposizioneOriginale - Corciano, Italy, and by the
Third Millennium Ensemble Composers Competition.

Ulf Grahn founded the Contemporary Music Forum, Washington, D.C. The
Washington Post has described Ulf Grahn'sCelebration for solo marimba"
intricate and buoyant"

McFerron's music has received critical acclaim and recognition. Perspectives
for Orchestra was awarded first prize in the Louisville Orchestra
Composition Competition.

"With few opportunities and much competition, young composers show
creativity in just getting heard." In Chris Pasles's article in the Los
Angeles Times, Robert Voisey is highlighted as one of those composers. His
60x60 Dance project was described by The New York Times as: "quite mad. But
it's this kind of madness that makes the cultural world go round"

Composer's Voice Concert Series is an opportunity for contemporary composers
to express their musical aesthetic and personal "voice" created in their
compositions. Started in 2001, the "Composer's Voice" concert series is
presenting its 47th concert Sunday April 25th.
