Future

Oklahoma Panhandle State University will present the nationally renowned
music experience 60x60 in its latest version on Thursday, March 25 at 7pm in
Centennial Theatre on the OPSU Campus.

60x60 is a unique presentation of 60 one-minute recorded compositions for
all media by composers from around the country and around the world. The
music will be played back through the theatre’s excellent sound system while
a clock counts down the minutes to help the audience keep track of the
elapsed time. The music will be in a wide range of styles and demonstrate
musical techniques from across the spectrum of composition.

This event is a project of the New York-based composer’s organization Vox
Novus, and is the brainchild of composer Robert Voisey. The version
presented at OPSU will be the International Mix of winners of the 2009
contest. 60x60 has become a larger phenomenon, with several “regional”
mixes, and the acclaimed 60x60 Dance, which pairs sixty choreographers with
sixty composers and sixty dance companies in the Winter Garden of New York’s
World Financial Center. 2010 marks the beginning of a new project, 60x60
Orchestra, which solicited one-minute compositions for symphony orchestra,
with the resulting work to be performed beginning in the Fall of 2010.

Generous support for this presentation and all guest artists at OPSU is
provided in part by the First National Bank of Texhoma.

Admission and parking is free for all audience members, and no tickets are
required. For further information, please contact Matthew Saunders, music
department chair at (580) 349-1483 or matthew.saunders at opsu.edu

Video Artist, Patrick Liddell recently received this Doctor of Music at
Northwestern University in Music Composition. His primary instructors have
been Jay Alan Yim (Northwestern University, Evanston IL), Chris Mercer
(Northwestern), Peter McIlwain (Monash University, Melbourne, Australia),
and Steve Heinemann (Bradley University, Peoria IL). His music has been
performed by Function Ensemble (London, UK), Monash Gamelan Ensemble
(Melbourne), pLAy Ensemble (Los Angeles, CA), Vox Novus (NYC, NY), Third
Coast Percussion Ensemble (Chicago, IL), and many other chamber and popular
groups. His art is a combination of music and video (video being the visual
counterpart to the temporality of sound), and in a postmodern idiom attempts
to combine popular, art, and world musics into a “unified disassociation”.
His most recent project, Arrow To The Sun, is a multi-dimensional
fractal-art piece that fuses music, video, taste, touch, smell, and thought
to evoke an anti-narrative of spiritual enlightenment.
