>From 12 to 17 October 2010 the city of Udine will host the fourteenth

edition of CONTEMPORANEA, the festival dedicated to New Music. The festival
will include a variety of events which explore the various expressions of
contemporary culture.

The festival is brought to you by Delta Produzioni, in collaboration with
TEM - Taukay Edizioni Musicali, the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine, the
Sergio Gaggia Musical Society and with the support of the Assessorato alla
Cultura of the Comune di Udine and the Fondazione C.R.U.P.,.

The festival, which is included in the program of I Nuovi Suoni
(www.inuovisuoni.it), once again enjoys the prestigious support of the
Presidente della Repubblica and the support of the Ministero per i Beni e le
Attività Culturali, the Ministero degli Affari Esteri, the Comitato Pari
Opportunità (MiBAC), UNESCO (Italian National Commission) and the Università
degli Studi di Udine.

The festival opens on 12 October at 6.30p.m. at the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da
Udine with the inauguration of 60x60 Images, an exhibition of visual arts.
The participating artists are from both the local area and from around the
world, selected from the many works submitted in response to the invitation
to participate. The exhibition is open from the 12 to 24 October, for
information on opening times please contact: info at teatroudine.it or phone
0432/248411.

The next event is set for the evening of 14 October at 9 p.m. at the San
Giorgio di Udine theatre. The evening will see a performance by the
Slovenian wind quintet Slowind, one of the most interesting international
groups specialising in the performance of New Music. The evening, organised
in collaboration with the Sergio Gaggia musical society, also includes the
Friulano pianist Andrea Rucli. There will also be music by the young German
composer Alfred Huber and the noted Sextuor by Francis Poulanc.

On 16 October at the Teatro San Giorgio we have 60x60 by the New Yorker
Robert Voisey. This electronic music project, which inspired the exhibition
opening on 12 October, involves 60 composers from numerous countries and is
based on the performance of 60 micro compositions, each lasting a maximum of
60 seconds, edited together in sequence and synchronised with a clock which
marks time. The project, which is remarkable for its heterogeneous nature,
was first shown in New York in 2003, and has since been re-elaborated in
various versions around the globe.

The festival closes on 17 October, again at the Teatro San Giorgio di Udine
at 9 p.m., with the performance of the wining compositions from the City of
Udine International Composition Competition. The remarkable success of the
competition, which saw the participation of 469 from 50 countries,
underlines the international importance the competition has achieved in just
eight editions

The instrumental ensemble Interensemble conducted by Maestro Bernardino
Beggio will be playing the works of Marinoni (Italy), Shkurtaj (Albania),
Palmer (UK), Bonilauri (Italy), Meza (Mexico), Yii (Malaysia). The works for
magnetic tape by Dufour-Laperrière (Canada) and Williams (UK) will also be
performed on the same evening.

The competition enjoys the important support of RAI Radio 3 which will
broadcast the winning compositions on the national Radio3 Suite.
