[Voxnovus] 15-Minutes-of-Fame: solo horn for Peter Reit

Vox Novus is calling for one-minute pieces composed for Fifteen Minutes of
Fame: Peter Reit, solo horn to be performed at the July 8, 2012 Composer's
Voice concert in New York City. The one-minute pieces are to be written
specifically for this project, which will be performed by Peter Reit, french
horn. All works must be 60 seconds or less.

Pieces should be for solo-unaccompanied french horn.
There are no restrictions on style or subject.
Extended techniques are welcome but not necessary.

Submission guidelines:
-Submission Deadline May 1, 2012
-Works written for solo unaccompanied french horn.
-Works must be submitted as a PDF file with a picture of the composer,
50-word biography, and 50-word program note about the piece.
-Do not submit sound files
-Works must be realistically one minute or less in length. No works over a
minute will be reviewed.
-Works need to be submitted via email to: composersvoicesubmit at gmail.com
-The subject line should read -15-Minutes-of-Fame: Horn; Composer Name -
Composition Title
-The 50-word biography and 50 word program notes must be pasted as text in
the body of the email. Please do not send these as attachments.
-The composer's picture must be attached as a jpg file.
-The score must be attached as a pdf. (performance notes should be included
with the score.)
-Works should be composed specifically for this project and its performers.
All pieces must be premieres and not previously written or performed.

No works over a minute will be reviewed. Multiple submission are
discouraged. Send your best work! The results will be announced by June 1,
2012 on the Vox Novus website, and composers of the 15 accepted works will
be notified by email.

Mr. Reit is Professor of Horn at Purchase College, State University of New
York, and also on the faculty at Vassar College.

Mr. Reit began his studies at the University of Vermont, and finished at the
Manhattan School of Music. His teachers were William Karstens, Joel Winter
and Paul Ingraham, and in turn he was greatly influenced by the New York
Brass Quintet members, who were then in residence at MSM.

Since his graduation in 1983, Mr. Reit has performed with the New York
Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Ensemble, Orchestra of St. Luke's, New York
City Opera and the American Ballet Theater. He has toured the U.S.
extensively with the American Symphony and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestras
with whom he played five seasons as Assistant Principal Horn under Maestro
James Levine. Mr. Reit is now one of Manhattan's most in-demand freelance
principal horn players. He also plays Principal Horn with the Westchester
Philharmonic, Greenwich Symphony and Scandia Symphony Orchestras, Associate
Principal Horn with the Stamford Symphony and is in his twenty-second year
with the Broadway hit 'Phantom of the Opera'.

Mr. Reit is featured on numerous cd recordings across all musical genres -
also in radio jingles, television and movie soundtracks. His jazz experience
includes performing as a member of the Mel Lewis Big Band at the Village
Vanguard together with recordings and worldwide tours with the Bob Belden
Ensemble.
