15-Minutes-of-Fame: Michelle McQuade Dewhirst

	Vox Novus is calling for one-minute pieces composed for
15-Minutes-of-Fame: Michelle McQuade Dewhirst, horn in F to be performed at
the March 11, 2012 Composer's Voice concert in New York City. This concert
is to celebrate Women's History Month and is open to Women Composers only.
The one-minute solo horn pieces are to be written specifically for this
project, which will be performed by horn player and composer Michelle
McQuade Dewhirst. All works must be 60 seconds or less.

Extended techniques for horn are strongly encouraged. Douglas Hill's
Extended Techniques for the Horn is a fantastic guide to writing horn
effects. This book is, sadly, out of print, but is likely to be available
through University-based interlibrary loan programs. A partial excerpt of

Pitch-bends, halve-valved pitches and multiphonics are especially welcome.
In the case of multiphonics, please note that it is far more practical to
sing pitches above a pedal tone than to play above a sung pedal. Sung
pitches may range from the concert F below middle C to the C above middle C;
notes outside that range will likely be less effective.

Submission guidelines:
-Submission Deadline January 2, 2012
-Women composers only
-Works written for solo horn
-Works must be submitted as a PDF file with a picture of the composer,
50-word biography, and 50-word program note about the piece.
-Do not submit sound files
-Works must be one minute in length. No works over a minute will be
reviewed.
-Works need to be submitted via email to: composersvoicesubmit at gmail.com
-The subject line should read - 15-Minutes-of-Fame: McQuade Dewhirst -
Composer Name - Composition Title
-The 50-word biography and 50 word program notes must be pasted as text in
the body of the email. Please do not send these as attachments.
-The composer's a picture must be attached as a jpg file.
-The score must be attached as a pdf. (performance notes should be included
with the score.)
-Include the dedication to Michelle McQuade Dewhirst on the score
-Works should be composed specifically for this project and performer. All
pieces must be premieres and not previously written or performed.


No works over a minute will be reviewed. Multiple submission are
discouraged. Send your best work! The results will be announced by February
1, 2012 on the Vox Novus website, and composers of the 15 accepted works
will be notified by email.
