15-Minutes-of-Fame: Marina Toshich for solo Oud

Vox Novus is calling for one-minute pieces composed for Oud to be performed
by Marina Toshich for Fifteen Minutes of Fame at the Composer's Voice
concert in Tel Aviv - Yaffa, September 16th, 2012. This concert is to
celebrate a conection between East and West and is open to all Composers.
The one-minute solo oud pieces are to be written specifically for this
project, which will be performed by oud player and composer Marina Toshich.
All works must be 60 seconds or less.

The book: "The Basics of Oud" can give more information about the
instrument. Basically, the oud is a melodic instrument with no harmony
playing (chords) possibilities. (There are no "official" chords because
there are no frets on the fingerboard. Therefore chords are never in tune.
Chords are used for "ornamentation". The notes should look like the violin,
only an octave lower.) A partial excerpt of this book is available at the
following link:
http://www.amazon.com/Mel-Bay-Presents-Basics-Book/dp/0786678631 The range
of oud is 3 octaves from the lower C. The music is written in violin key.
Chosen composition will be performed in the tradition of eastern music -
certain ornamentation will be added at performance itself according to the
taste of the performer.
