COMPOSER’S VOICE CONCERT – January 29,
2012 (NEW YORK, NEW YORK) Vox Novus, in collaboration with the Remarkable Theater
Brigade and Jan Hus Church present:  Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame: 15 new
pieces by 15 composers performed in 15 minutes! 
Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame is an
open-ended series started on the Composer’s Voice concert series in 2011 and
offers its 13th presentation January 29, 2012.  This concert will support the Homeless Outreach & Advocacy Program
(HOAP).
 
15-Minutes-of-Fame: Bateira Trio:
15 one-minute works composed specifically for Bateira Trio: Sooyun Kim, flute,
Conway Kuo, viola, and Satoshi Okamoto, double-bass.  Bateira Trio will be premiering works
by composers: Matteo Bertolina; David Berlin; Douglas DaSilva; Murray Gross;
Isaac Hayward; Scott Janz; Francis Kayali; Cheryl Krugel; Vivian Li; Stan Link;
Ted Mann; David Morneau; Aurelio Scotto; Nina Siniakova; and Douglas
Wagoner.
 
Winner
of a Georg Solti Foundation Career Grant, flutist Sooyun Kim made
her prize-winning debut at age ten with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. In
2010 she became the first American since 1964 to win a top prize at the ARD
International Music Competition. In 2007, she was named one of Korea's Young
Leaders of Tomorrow by the Korean Central Daily News in recognition of
her achievement and contributions to the arts. Ms. Kim is a member of Chamber Music Society
Two.
 
Conway Kuo, violist/violinist is
currently the Associate Principal Second Violin of the New York City Ballet
Orchestra and also a Section First Violinist with the New York City Opera
Orchestra. Mr. Kuo performs regularly with the Philadelphia Orchestra and
participated in the Aspen, Schleswig-Holstein, and Pacific Music Festivals. Mr.
Kuo was the first violinist to perform a solo violin Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame (May 15, 2011,
NYC)
 
Satoshi
Okamoto
was an assistant principal double bassist in the San Antonio Symphony and a
member of the New York City Ballet Orchestra before joining the New York
Philharmonic in September 2003. An eight-time Aspen Music Festival participant,
he won the festival’s bass competition twice, in 1993 and 1997. He also became a
finalist of the International Society of Bassist Solo Competition in 1997, and
the Izuminomori International Double Bass Competition in 2001.

 
The
West Point Woodwind Quintet
of the West Point Band is made up of members of the Concert Band.  The quintet
has entertained the United States Corps of Cadets and performed for many
visiting dignitaries and heads of state. including annual receptions hosted by
the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy, Presidential
receptions in New York City, and the 40th Anniversary of the United
Nations.
 
Composer, filmmaker, Artistic
Director, Douglas DaSilva’s
compositions have been described as “very individual, and to us has a very clear
personality” by Duozona (Classical Guitar
Magazine).   His violin works were featured on 2011 Vox Novus in Romania series. Mr.
DaSilva’s piece Jor-el’s Juju inspired by New York
City Artist Andrew Chesler’s work,
will be premiered by Domenica
Fossati, flute; Josh Henderson,
violin; Susan Davita Mandel, cello;
and Matt Frey, clarinet.

 
Composer's Voice Concert Series
is an opportunity for contemporary composers to express their musical aesthetic
and personal "voice" created in their compositions. Started in 2001, the
“Composer’s Voice” concert series is presenting its 72nd concert Sunday, January
29, 2012. We accept donations of food & clothing for the HOAP.
