SoundProof performs the opening concert at the Electronic Music Midwest
Festival

Thursday, October, 11 2012 7:30 PM the West Coast trio SoundProof will open
the Electronic Music Midwest festival with a dynamic expression of
instruments and electronics. SoundProof will be performing works of living
composers from around the world including a set of works from the East Coast
Fifteen Minutes of Fame project.

SoundProof is a trio that includes violinist Patricia Strange, violist Brian
Belet, and Stephen Ruppenthal playing the trumpet. SoundProof strives to
explore the creative and interactive potential in the convergence of sound,
music, technology, and performance. Drawing from a wealth of sources,
SoundProof events realize new possibilities for sound and music, blending
the traditions of contemporary performance with the exigencies of real-time
digital processing. SoundProof stretches the barriers of sound, creating a
new environment for electro-acoustic performance, and sculpting a new sonic
and visual landscape. Every event is unique, fashioning sound art in
multi-dimensional acoustic spaces.
Fifteen Minutes of Fame is a collection of 15 one-minute acoustic works
composed specifically for a specific performer or ensemble. The purpose of
Fifteen Minutes of Fame is to promote a great variety of contemporary music
to audiences hungry to hear what living composers are writing today. The
project series seeks one minute music composition from composers working in
any style and aesthetic.
"...the 15 Minutes of Fame project of Vox Novus is a godsend. It organizes
competitions whereby ensembles commission worldwide calls for submissions of
approximately one-minute pieces, and then select their 15 favorites for
premieres. “- Seth Gilman, NY Music Culture Examiner
SoundProof’s Fifteen Minutes of Fame includes the composers: Brian Belet,
Julius Bucsis, James Caldwell, Bruce Hamilton, Mark A. Lackey, Christopher
Lee, Elainie Lillios, Jim McManus, Scott Miller, Ken Paoli, Mark Phillips,

festival consists of nine short concerts about 1 hour in length from
Thursday to Saturday containing a host of international composers and
musicians presenting and performing new works.

Electronic Music Midwest will present the works of more than 100 composers.
It will open with SoundProof a West Coast trio performing Fifteen Minutes of
Fame as well as longer works. Andrew Spencer will perform at least once on
every concert after the opening, and
The Festival brings together vibrant and interesting artists of all forms,
giving them a vehicle for their expressions, and a place for them to share
ideas with others. Composers have traveled from around the world to share
their music with audiences in the Midwest. EMM creates a pleasant experience
for audiences to listen to new works and speak with their creators in
person. It is a unique opportunity to meet an international community of
composers and musicians creating the music of tomorrow, today.
