The wind machine, or aeoliphone, has been used by composers ever since
Pharaoh Sneferu invented wind in 2590 BC (or so they say). Rossini, Wagner,
Vaughan Williams, Dinklaker, Ravel-all have used the instrument in their
compositions to evoke the sound of wind. But it took avant-garde tunesmith
Pagnol Pringler to demonstrate the device's star power as a solo instrument
("Etude Brute for Aeoliphone in A"). On the other hand, the premiere of his
"Mesocyclone in C Minor" (2012) proved disastrous when the combined force of
the eight modified devices blew out the west wall of the concert hall and
scattered all of the spectators in rows A through G into the surrounding
streets, some of whom (i.e., the spectators, not the streets) forever lost
their appetite for contemporary music.

NYC to EMM: Building Global Bridges <http://www.CircuitBridges.com>

Vox Novus will be embarking on their second concert of the exciting new
Circuit Bridges Series! From the Midwest to New York and from Europe to
Australia, this concert brings a wide array of composers from across the
globe. Some say a composer's music travels more than they do, and for this
series, it may be true! This unique electroacoustic series, based at the
Gallery MC in New York City, seeks to meld the contemporary works of local
composers and musicians with the electroacoustic works from visiting
electroacoustic composers and sound artists, blending the work of two
uniquely different groups of composers on each concert.

Circuit Bridges is an electroacoustic series providing audiences with half a
concert of performance of local composers and musicians and the other half
with electroacoustic works from visiting electroacoustic composers and sound
artists.

Titled "NYC to EMM," features a bridge between both composers selected from
the New York area as well as composers from Electronic Music Midwest (EMM),
recently released on a CD with Irritable Hedgehog Records.

New York based composers include Melissa Grey, Angela Grauerholz, Daniel
Blinkhorn, James Mercer (aka Mysterious House), Julius Bucsis, and Nicholas
Nelson with performances by Margaret Lancaster and Lynn Bechtold

"New-music luminary" (The New York Times) and "leading exponent of the
avant-garde flute" (Village Voice), Margaret Lancaster has built a large
repertoire of new works composed for her that employ extended techniques,
multi-media, and electronics fusing music, theater and movement. Performance
highlights include Lincoln Center Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, Ibsen
Festival, Santa Fe New Music, Edinburgh Festival, Tap City, New Music Miami,
and Festival D'Automne.

Violinist Lynn Bechtold has appeared in recital throughout NA and Europe,
and has premiered solo/chamber works by composers such as Gloria Coates,
George Crumb, John Harbison, Alvin Lucier, and Morton Subotnick. She is a
member of groups including Zentripetal Duo, Bleecker StQ, Miolina, SEM, and
the NY Symphonic Ensemble, and her performances have been broadcast on
various TV and radio, including WNYC, 30 Rock, The CBS Morning Show, and
Good Day NY. An active performer of all genres of music, she has appeared at
diverse venues, from Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall to LPR and Joe's Pub.

EMM composers include Mike McFerron, Jackie K. White, Jason Bolte, Michael
Pounds, George Brunner, David McIntire, Elainie Lillios, Jay C Batzner, and
M. Anthony Reimer with a performance by Christina Hourihan

Soprano Christina Hourihan, will perform Mike McFerron's "X Marks the
Sirens" A budding ingenue, she has already performed the roles of Zerlina
(Don Giovanni), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), The Bat (L'enfant et les
Sortileges), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), and Papagena (Die
Zauberflote).

One of the award-winning composers featured on both EMM's CD, as well as
this concert, is founder and co-director of EMM, Mike McFerron. Mike is also
professor of music and composer-in-residence at Lewis University. With
compositions ranging from orchestra to electroacoustic music, his work has
been performed throughout North America and Europe.

Electronic Music Midwest is dedicated to programming of a wide variety of
electroacoustic music and provides the highest quality performance of
electronic media. The festival consists of nine concerts about 1 hour in
length over the course of 3 days. EMM creates an atmosphere conducive to
meeting vibrant and interesting artists of all forms, gives them a vehicle
for their expressions, and a place for them to share ideas with others.

Circuit Bridges will present this exciting collaboration concert on April
24th, 2014 at 8:00 pm at the Gallery MC in New York, NY.

The Electronic Music Midwest festival will be presenting Circuit Bridges
this year on their Thursday concert on October 16th, 2014.

This set of one-minute pieces composed for Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame with tuba
player Kenyon Wilson is to be premiered during the 2014 International
Tuba/Euphonium Conference on May 23. 2014 in Bloomington, Indiana, Ford
Hall, Indiana University

Kenyon Wilson holds positions as principal tubist with the Tuscaloosa
Symphony Orchestra in Alabama and the Augusta Symphony Orchestra in Georgia.
He has performed solo recitals in Canada, Japan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and
Armenia in addition to presenting recitals in thirty-six states in the USA.
He has soloed with the Augusta Symphony, Waco Symphony, Queen City Brass
Band, Clinch River Brass Band, Blasmusik Texas Brass Band, and the Asahikawa
Symphonic Band in Japan.

2014 Call for Submissions

Lewis University and Kansas City Kansas Community College are pleased to
announce an international call for submissions for the Electronic Music
Midwest Festival, featuring guest performer Craig Hultgren, to be held
October 16-18, 2014 at Lewis University.

Each concert will feature an 8.1 speaker diffusion system. Acclaimed cellist
Craig Hultgren will be the featured performer and composers are encouraged
to submit works for his consideration. Any composer regardless of region,
age or nationality may submit one work.

EMM accepts all electroacoustic works, but we especially seek music that
falls within one of the following categories:
1) Composition for cello and fixed media and/or live electronics
2) Two channel works for fixed media
3) Up to eight channel works for fixed media
4) Instrument(s)/Voice(s) and fixed media or live electronics (composer to
provide performers)
5) Works for video
6) Sound Installations and Interactive Media (composer to provide all
non-standard equipment)
7) Live Laptop works
8) Live Interactive works

Deadline: June 1, 2014

Entry Fee: none

Submission Guidelines:
1) For consideration, applicants must register and complete an online
submission form available at http://www.emmfestival.org. Complete submission
information and guidelines are available on the EMM website.
2) For adjudication purposes, multi-channel works (up to 8 channels) must be
submitted as a stereo mix and uploaded at http://www.emmfestival.org. The
EMM 8-channel speaker array uses a front and rear center.
3) "Works in progress" will be considered if a substantial portion of the
work is submitted.

Composers whose works are selected for this festival are required to submit
a $60 registration fee at the festival and must agree to attend the
festival. Regrettably, EMM is not able to offer travel stipends or
honorariums to festival participants at this time.

EMM is not able to consider works that do not conform to the guidelines
outlined above.

Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame: Homage to Bach with Maksim Velichkin

Deadline: April 19, 2014

Vox Novus is calling for one-minute pieces composed for
Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame: Homage to Bach is to be premiered by Maksim
Velichkin on the Music at Mimoda series in Los Angeles. The one-minute works
for this call are to be written for solo cello. The theme of this Fifteen
Minutes of Fame is an Homage to Bach; works submitted should be based on,
developed from, and otherwise related to the pitches BACH. This shall serve
as a uniting factor for all the compositions. The pieces should employ
traditional means of extracting sound from the cello.

Maksim Velichkin has been active as a solo performer, chamber and orchestra
musician, both locally and throughout the world. Mr.Velichkin has appeared
as a soloist with Uzbekistan National Symphony, Duquesne Contemporary
Ensemble, American Youth Symphony, as well as Torrance, Westchester,
Southeast and Bellflower orchestras. He has toured extensively to Europe,
Asia, North and South America and Australia with the prestigious Verbier
Chamber and Verbier Festival Symphony Orchestras.
