Make Music New York is a live, free musical celebration on June 21, the
longest day of the year, with over 1,200 concerts on streets, sidewalks, and
parks across the five boroughs.

Make Music New York Inc. is a NYC-based nonprofit that organizes two annual,
participatory musical celebrations: Make Music New York on June 21st, the
summer solstice, and Make Music Winter on December 21st, the winter
solstice.

Now in its eighth year, Make Music New York, "the largest music event ever
to grace Gotham" (Metro New York), is a unique festival of 1,000+ free
concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all
on June 21st, the first day of summer. MMNY takes place simultaneously with
similar festivities in more than 726 cities around the world - a global
celebration of music making.

Completely different from a typical music festival, MMNY is open to anyone
who wants to take part. From 10 in the morning to 10 at night, musicians of
all ages, creeds, and musical persuasions - from hip hop to opera, Latin
jazz to punk rock - perform on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas,
cemeteries, parks and gardens. From high school bands to marquee names, MMNY
is open to anyone who wants to take part, enjoyed by everyone who wants to
attend.

Over 1,000 MMNY concerts have taken place in each of the last four years.

The next Make Music New York is on Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame with Viola Yip

Vox Novus called for one-minute pieces for solo speaking voice dedicated to
Viola Yip for Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame. The works embody creative and
adventurous aesthetics for solo speaking voice for the concert. As the
speaking voice is the natural instrument of human beings, composers are
encouraged to explore what that instrument allows us to express. The theme
for these works is"Dedication."

Viola Yip, a native of Hong Kong, is a Brooklyn-based composer and
performer, who tries to find the boundaries and push the boundaries in her
imaginary sound world. As a composer, her compositions are not limited to
acoustic music, electronic music, graphic scores and structured
improvisation. Recent works appeared in ArtX at Bowling Green State
University, Women Composers Festival of Hartford, Ravinia Festival, Fresh
Inc Festival, soundSCAPE Festival, TEDXSMU, University of Florida,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, NASA saxophone conference,
ThingNY spam v3.0 concert, Quiet City concert, Vox Novus Concert, Musicarama
2012 (Hong Kong) and PAUSA Art House in Buffalo. As a new music advocate,
she also performs contemporary works regularly as a pianist and an
improviser. Her recent interest falls on using human natural voice as an
instrument and explore its expressivity and musicality.

Composers selected for this Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame include: Cooke England,
Juan Maria Solare, Norbert Hoffmann, David Jason Snow, Emma-Ruth Richards,
Fermino Gomes, Wesley Levers, Joshua Hahn, Krystal Grant, Jeffrey Edenberg,
Shigeru Kan-no, Samuel Stokes, Christopher Culp, JJ de Azevedo Souza

Fifteen Minutes of Fame is 15 one-minute acoustic works by different
composers. Fifteen Minutes of Fame gives a variety of new music by living
composers to audiences hungry to hear what is being created in today's music
scene.

".the pieces are performed in quick succession and each has a character of
its own, the audience is treated to a kaleidoscope of styles; in turn
textural and tonal, avant-garde and neo-romantic... the entire smorgasbord
of contemporary idioms was playing a game of musical chairs, so to speak,
and the effect was thrilling. " - Damjan Rakonjac, Artificialist

John Sokoloff's music comes from his Russian-American heritage. Melodic and
soulful, John's piano-based songs are unique in their lyricism and
passionate honesty. Combining a variety of instruments and styles
seamlessly, The John Sokoloff Band has released five compact discs of
compelling, instrumental music.

John served as composer for the critically acclaimed CBS Primetime "The
Bonnie Hunt Show" for David Letterman's Worldwide Pants Productions. He
composed and played on the theme and all incidental music for the show.

A song from his debut cd Vacation Beach, was the featured theme for Moscow's
850th Birthday official documentary, produced by award winning director
Tofik Shefardeev. Commissioned by Mayor Lushkov and sanctioned by the Moscow
government,

DVD copies of the documentary were distributed to the gathered mayors of the
world's major cities.

Additionally, The John Sokoloff Band has been heard on radio and television
in the United States and Russia.

The piano-based band also allows for eclectic instrument combinations and a
variety of influences - from Blues and Classical to Russian Folk.

>From congas to violin, electric guitar to balalaika - the common denominator
is soul.

Circuit Bridges no.5: From Sitting to Standing

Thursday, June 26th, 2014 at 7:30 PM

"What would you do if you discovered a secret that changed everything?" In
the next Circuit Bridges concert 'From Sitting to Standing,' Speak Onion and
enn{kdog will take a stab at answering that question. Circuit Bridges is an
electroacoustic series providing audiences with half a concert of
performance of local composers and musicians and the other half with
electroacoustic works from visiting electroacoustic composers and sound
artists. Based at the Gallery MC in New York City, Circuit Bridges seeks to
meld the contemporary works of local composers and musicians with the
electroacoustic works from visiting electroacoustic composers and sound
artists, blending the work of two uniquely different groups of composers on
each concert.

This particular Circuit Bridges concert is unique in that it features both a
seated and a standing portion to the concert. From Sitting to Standing will
present music in both a traditional concert hall setting (where the audience
is seated) and in a underground music club setting (where the audience is
standing). The audience will move between different rooms in the gallery at
specific points in the show to transition between the concert hall and music
club settings. This concert will feature performances by two artists from
Immigrant Breast Nest: Speak Onion and enn{kdog.

As Speak Onion, Dan Abatemarco treads on, then completely explodes, the line
between producer and noisician. He spews seething noise, giant deformed
beats and absolutely wrong atmospheres in fits and starts until nothing
sounds like what it sounds like anymore. Breakbeats and basslines enter
innocently but end up processed beyond recognition and drowning in feedback.
Synth sounds are stretched, manipulated, and left ruined as chilling
shrieks. The resulting sonic abomination slips between the dimensions of
experimentalism, harsh noise, and beat-bashed breakcore. Dancefloor? Maybe.
Slaughterhouse floor? Yes, definitely.

enn{kdog is a Brooklyn based noise group started in 2013. Peter Seligman and
James Mercer are the backbone of the group, with contributions by David B.
Applegate. enn{kdog began with collaborative remixes of raw Peter Seligman
material, but has evolved to a greater specificity through live shows and
endless variations on a handfull of pieces. Peter Seligman currently lives
in Brooklyn, NY and plays experimental techno under his own name. James
Mercer is a visual and sound artist also living in Brooklyn, NY. Mysterious
House is his solo digital noise project.

Alessandro Perini studied Composition (with Luca Francesconi and Ivan Fedele
among others), Electronic Music and Science of Musical Communication in
Italy and Sweden. His artistic production ranges from instrumental music to
audiovisual and light-based works with a particular focus on the
relationship between the sonic and the visual perception. His compositions
have been played in Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, Lithuania, Iceland,
Russia and Argentina.

Gilad Cohen, praised by the Israeli Prime Minister Award Committee for
"creating a personal language fusion that has a unique dimension" in music
that is "fascinating, vibrant and drawing the ear as well as the heart."
Gilad Cohen is an active composer and performer of concert music, rock and
musical theatre.

Francesco Maggio studies composition with Ivan Fedele and Giorgio Nottoli.
His works have been selected for the performance by Orchestra I Pomeriggi
Musicali di Milano, Roma Sinfonietta, Grupo de Musica Contemporanea de
Lisboa, Sanremo Orchestra, Contempoartensemble, Musikfabrik, Minguet
Quartett, Vocalconsort Berlin, Margit Kern, Patrik Kleemola, and Andrea
Pestalozza. Since 2010 is also a composer in residance at Brinkhall Summer
Concerts in Turku (Finland). Maggio is living in Stuttgart (Germany).

Mitchell Herrmann is a student currently attending Oberlin College and
Conservatory, majoring in Music Technology and Cinema Studies. His work has
explored the intersections between experimental film and electroacoustic
music, with a focus on combining influences from digital animation and
acousmatic sound. He currently studies composition with Peter Swendsen, and
film with Geoff Pingree.

Juan Vasquez, London-based composer and sound artist from Colombia More than
200 performances within the United Kingdom, United States, Italy, Ireland,
Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. Commissions by the
Westminster and Chelsea Hospital / Museum (UK) in partnership with Royal
College of Music (UK), the Arts Council through the Wiltshire Museum (UK),
Polish Artists in London "PAiL" (UK), the Hilltown New Music Festival
(Ireland) and the FEast 2013 (Florida International University, USA). Record
deals with Important Records and Ablaze Records.

Keith Patchel, Composer Producer Recording Artist. 2010 Composer for Emmy
nominated HBO documentary "Finishing Heaven" Winner Best Composer 2011
Manhattan Film Festival for "Crumble" Winner Best Composer 2010 New York
International Film Festival for "Crumble."

Jerod Sommerfeldt's music focuses on the creation of algorithmic and
stochastic processes, utilizing the results for both fixed and real-time
composition and improvisation. His sound world explores digital audio
artifacts and the destruction of technology, resulting in work that
questions the dichotomy between the intended and unintentional. An active
performer as both soloist and collaborator in interactive digital music and
live video, he currently serves as Assistant Professor of Electronic Music
Composition and Theory at the State University of New York at Potsdam Crane
School of Music, and as director of the SUNY-Potsdam Electronic Music
Studios (PoEMS).
