Jascha's Revenge

Jascha's Revenge
<http://www.voxnovus.com/NM421/issue/postcard/14-05-02-Jaschas_Revenge.jpg>

At the beginning of his career, Jascha Heifetz had to play his violin in the
shadow of his cellist sister, Hedda, who his parents considered to be the
superior musician. For years, it was Hedda this and bloody Hedda that, until
a secretly fuming Jascha hatched a plan of revenge. It began with extensive
training of his canine companion, Bowser, and ended one Sunday afternoon in
May when Hedda was performing Dinklaker's Etude Brute for Solo Cello at
Carnegie Hall. She was so engrossed in the piece's thorny intricacies that
she didn't hear the horrified screams from the audience as Bowser made off
with her left leg. No longer able to bow properly, a crestfallen Hedda soon
thereafter retired from the performance stage, finally allowing her younger
brother to grab the limelight he so desperately sought.

Fifteen Minutes of Fame is 15 one-minute acoustic works by different
composers. Fifteen Minutes of Fame gives a variety of new music by living
composers to audiences hungry to hear what is being created in today's music
scene.

".the pieces are performed in quick succession and each has a character of
its own, the audience is treated to a kaleidoscope of styles; in turn
textural and tonal, avant-garde and neo-romantic... the entire smorgasbord
of contemporary idioms was playing a game of musical chairs, so to speak,
and the effect was thrilling. " - Damjan Rakonjac, Artificialist

Maksim Velichkin will be performing the one-minute works from composers:

Announcing results for Fifteen Minutes of Fame with Viloa Yip

Vox Novus called for one-minute pieces for solo speaking voice dedicated to
Viola Yip for Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame to be performed May 11, 2014 for the
Composer's Voice concert series at the Jan Hus Church in New York City.

The one-minute pieces are to be written specifically for this project, which
will be performed by Viola Yip.

The works embody creative and adventurous aesthetics for solo speaking voice
for the concert. As the speaking voice is the natural instrument of human
beings, composers are encouraged to explore what that instrument allows us
to express. The theme for these works is"Dedication."

Viola Yip, a native of Hong Kong, is a Brooklyn-based composer and
performer, who tries to find the boundaries and push the boundaries in her
imaginary sound world. As a composer, her compositions are not limited to
acoustic music, electronic music, graphic scores and structured
improvisation. Recent works appeared in ArtX at Bowling Green State
University, Women Composers Festival of Hartford, Ravinia Festival, Fresh
Inc Festival, soundSCAPE Festival, TEDXSMU, University of Florida,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, NASA saxophone conference,
ThingNY spam v3.0 concert, Quiet City concert, Vox Novus Concert, Musicarama
2012 (Hong Kong) and PAUSA Art House in Buffalo. As a new music advocate,
she also performs contemporary works regularly as a pianist and an
improviser. Her recent interest falls on using human natural voice as an
instrument and explore its expressivity and musicality.

Selected composers for Fifteen Minutes of Fame include:
Alfie Cooke's A Lecture on the Meaning of Dedication,
Christopher Culp's Swan Song : To Life,
Jeffrey Edenberg's [? m a],

Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame: Pamela Sklar, bass flute & Suzanne Mueller, cello

Deadline: May 9, 2014

Vox Novus is calling for one-minute duets composed for
Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame: Pamela Sklar, bass flute, & Suzanne Mueller, cello
to be premiered on November 9, 2014 for the Composer's Voice concert Series
at the Jan Hus Church in New York City. Pieces should be for bass flute &
cello duet only. No solos. The call 'theme' is meditative, peaceful, soulful
and magical music inspired by Native American cultures. Some ideas: vision
quest, peace meeting, animal souls, the glory and majesty of open outdoor
natural spaces- mountains, forests, plains, etc.

A published composer of chamber music, Pamela Sklar plays many styles of
music and enjoys collaborating as a flutist and composer. Her duo for
violin/bongos and cello was co-featured at Composers Concordance's Festival
II, and her Spell 166 for five flutes & organ is included in Lincoln Center

credits include numerous tours as soloist with Claude Bolling, concerts with
Dave Brubeck, TV performances with tenor Andrea Bocelli, orchestras for the
GRAMMY Awards, recordings for jingles, major films and many artists
