Endeavoring to support and empower musicians in these challenges times,
Circuit Bridges features saxophonist Drew Whiting to present the works of
composers: Alexis Bacon

Rob McClure, Judith Shatin, an Ben Zucker.



These online performances and are presented LIVE online so audiences can
engage directly with the musicians and composers.  Each event contains
specifically selected and curated compositions from an International call
for scores.  The musician and the composers then introduce themselves and
their works LIVE online and are available for questions, feedback, and
applause from all who attend.



Saxophonist Drew Whiting leads a multifaceted career as an educator,
performer, and scholar. His diverse musical interests include the standard
concert saxophone repertoire, jazz, transcriptions of borrowed works,
commissioning new works, and improvisation. Drew is an accomplished chamber
musician, having been awarded first place at the 2012 MTNA National Chamber
Music Competition as a member of the Cerulean Saxophone Quartet. He
currently performs with a variety of ensembles including the Coalescent
Quartet, Water City Jazz Orchestra, Big Band Reunion, and Wisconsin Chamber
Orchestra, as well as performing frequently as a solo artist.

Drew has established himself as a champion of new and experimental music,
regularly performing works from the 20th and 21st centuries in solo,
chamber, and electroacoustic settings.



Drew Whiting will be presenting the works of Alexis Bacon, Rob McClure,
Judith Shatin, and Ben Zucker.



Alexis Bacon is a composer recognized nationally and internationally for
both her acoustic and electroacoustic music. Her work draws inspiration
from a diverse array of sound worlds, including vanishing American oral
traditions, medieval Provençal poetry, Norwegian fiddle music, and
AfroBrazilian religious ceremonies. She is currently Assistant Professor of
Music Composition at Michigan State University.



Robert McClure’s music attempts to discover beauty in unconventional places
using non-traditional means. His work has been featured at festivals
including NYCEMF, Beijing Modern Music Festival, ISCM, TIES, SEAMUS, and
ICMC.He serves as Assistant Professor of Composition/Theory at Ohio
University.



Composer Judith Shatin (www.judithshatin.com) creates music that embraces
dynamic narrative design and timbral exploration, expressed in acoustic,
digital and cross-media forms. Her music has been commissioned by
organizations including the Barlow Endowment, Fromm Foundation, Carnegie
Hall, the Library of Congress and ensembles such as the National Symphony,
Ensemble Berlin PianoPercussion and Kronos Quartet. She is William R. Kenan
Jr. Professor Emerita at the University of Virginia. In demand as a master
teacher, she has served as senior composer at the Wellesley Composers
Conference, Master Artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts and BMI
Composer-in-Residence at Vanderbilt University.



Ben Zucker engages in acts of creative juxtaposition and speculation as a
composer, audiovisual artist, and multi-instrumentalist. For his work, he
has been acclaimed as a "master of improvisation" (IMPOSE Magazine), and
“more than a little bit remarkable” (Free Jazz Blog), and recognized as a
New Composer Talent by the International Audio Branding Academy. He
currently lives in Chicago, studying, teaching, and organizing as a
doctoral student at Northwestern University.
