Come listen to saxophonist Drew Whiting perform the works of contemporary
composers online LIVE!  Get a chance to ask questions to the artist, make
comments and appreciate the works of the composers presented.



This is the second performance from Drew Whiting with another set of
composers selected from his International call for scores.

Endeavoring to support and empower musicians in these challenging times,
Circuit Bridges features saxophonist Drew Whiting to present the works of
composers: Spencer Arias, Alexis Bacon, Christopher Chandler, and Monte
Taylor.



These online performances are presented LIVE online so audiences can engage
directly with the musicians and composers.  Each event contains
specifically selected and curated compositions from an International call
for scores.  The musician and the composers then introduce themselves and
their works LIVE online and are available for questions, feedback, and
applause from all who attend.



Saxophonist Drew Whiting leads a multifaceted career as an educator,
performer, and scholar. His diverse musical interests include the standard
concert saxophone repertoire, jazz, transcriptions of borrowed works,
commissioning new works, and improvisation. Drew is an accomplished chamber
musician, having been awarded first place at the 2012 MTNA National Chamber
Music Competition as a member of the Cerulean Saxophone Quartet. He
currently performs with a variety of ensembles including the Coalescent
Quartet, Water City Jazz Orchestra, Big Band Reunion, and Wisconsin Chamber
Orchestra, as well as performing frequently as a solo artist.

Drew has established himself as a champion of new and experimental music,
regularly performing works from the 20th and 21st centuries in solo,
chamber, and electroacoustic settings.



Drew Whiting will be presenting the works of Spencer Arias, Alexis Bacon,
Christopher Chandler, and Monte Taylor.



Spencer Arias (b.1990) is a composer and performer based in East Lansing,
Michigan who creates highly evocative music oftentimes represented by lived
experiences and social commentary. Having worked with Dancers, Musicians,
Visual Artists, and Poets, he thoroughly enjoys collaboration,
improvisation and community engagement. His work often reflects on social
issues, in particular nature and climate change. He also enjoys
experimenting in the kitchen, photography, nature, and too much Netflix. He
is also the host of the new YouTube cooking show Cooking with Creatives,
where he interviews musicians and other creatives while they cook food
together. He has had performances throughout the US and Europe having been
performed by musicians such as the JACK Quartet, The Columbus Symphony
Woodwind Quintet, Quartetto Indaco, the Rogue Trio, The Lotus Trio, The New
Thread Quartet, and the PRISM Saxophone Quartet. He has won numerous awards
some of which include the Music Now Competition, The Jere Hutcherson Large
Ensemble Competition, and the Most Inspirational Performance Art Award at
the 2020 Michigan State University Social Justice Art Festival.

Alexis Bacon is a composer recognized nationally and internationally for
both her acoustic and electroacoustic music. Her work draws inspiration
from a diverse array of sound worlds, including vanishing American oral
traditions, medieval Provençal poetry, Norwegian fiddle music, and
AfroBrazilian religious ceremonies. She is currently Assistant Professor of
Music Composition at Michigan State University.

Christopher Chandler is a composer, sound artist, and a co-founder of the
[Switch~ Ensemble]. He serves as Assistant Professor of Music at Union
College in Schenectady, NY where he teaches courses in music theory,
composition, and technology. His acoustic and electroacoustic work draws on
field recordings, found sound objects, and custom generative software. His
music has been performed across the United States, Canada, and France by
leading ensembles including Eighth Blackbird, the American Wild Ensemble,
the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony,
and Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. His has received recognition and awards for
his music including a BMI Student Composer Award, an ASCAP/SEAMUS
Commission, two first prizes from the Austin Peay State University Young
Composer's Award, winner of the American Modern Ensemble’s Annual
Composition Competition, and the Nadia Boulanger Composition Prize from the
American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France. Christopher received a
Ph.D. in composition from the Eastman School of Music, an M.M. in
composition from Bowling Green State University, and a B.A. in composition
and theory from the University of Richmond.

Monte Taylor (b.1991) is a composer, guitarist, and improviser based in
Austin, TX. His works have been performed on festivals including Australian
Percussion Gathering, Charlotte New Music Festival, Electric LaTex
Festival, Electronic Music Midwest, Florida Electro-Acoustic Student
Festival, Florida International Toy Piano Festival, Kansas City Art
Institute’s ArtSounds, National Student Electronic Music Event, New York
City Electroacoustic Music Festival, SCI Regional and National Student
Conferences, SEAMUS National Conference, SPLICE Institute, TUTTI Festival,
and UTEMS Electro-Acousitc Recital Series, by ensembles including Bent
Frequency, Compositum Musicae Novae, Frost Electronic Music Ensemble,
Passepartout Duo, and the University of Texas New Music Ensemble. He is the
2nd place recipient of the 2020 KLANG! International Electroacoustic
Composition Competition. He is a staff member for the Electronic Music
Studios at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is currently
pursuing a DMA in Composition.
