Something New! Taishogoto Workshop

Vox Novus is starting something new, workshops! This is a chance for 
composer to create compositions for instruments that are not commonly 
written for; especially in western canon.  Last year we did a worshop 
with hichiriki player Thomas Piercy.  This year we return to Japanese 
instruments with David Bohn introducing the Taishogoto.

The Taishogoto (also known as the Nagoya Harp or Peacock Harp) was 
developed in the early 20th century. It consists of a course of multiple 
melody strings and a drone string, which are fretted via a keyboard.

A native of Wisconsin, David Bohn received degrees in composition from 
the University of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the 
University of Illinois. His primary composition teachers were Joel 
Naumann, Yehuda Yannay, and William Brooks. In his career as a 
multi-instrumentalist, he has given World or American premieres of 
hundreds of keyboard works.
