Composer’s Voice features Argus Quartet presenting Faingold, Brockman,
and Cecconi Bates on Manhattan Neighborhood Network April 29, 2023 at
2:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)
This episode of Composer’s Voice features the Argus Quartet presenting
the works of Noam Faingold, Jane Brockman, and Augusta Cecconi Bates.
This “vivacious foursome” (The New Yorker) is committed to bringing
thoughtful and personal programs to both seasoned listeners and
audiences new to classical music. The Quartet enjoys projects that
celebrate collaboration, community, and risk-taking in venues of all
shapes and sizes. This performance is part of a special program from
Vox Novus called Contemporary Quartets. Contemporary Quartets Project is
creating a new way to produce contemporary String Quartets.
Composer’s Voice airs its half-hour show every two weeks Saturday at
2:00 PM EDT (UTC-4) on NYC cable access TV with Manhattan Neighborhood’s
Network channel 2.

Washington DC based composer/educator Noam Faingold's music has been
described as "...lyrical...", "...exhilarating...", and "...a
tour-de-force of Jazz melded with Classical..." by The New York Times,
The BBC, and Downbeat Magazine, among others. Faingold is passionate
about composing for traditional and cross-genre projects. Highlights
include works for NY Philharmonic oboist Rob Botti, cellist Inbal Segev,
and the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra and 20th century poet Yevgeny
Yevtushenko's family (an elegy in the poet's memory on Navona Records).
Brockman holds a Doctorate in Music Composition from the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor, studied in Paris on a Fulbright/Alliance Française
Fellowship, and worked in Vienna on a Rackham Prize. Awards and honors
include the Mac Dowell Colony, State of Connecticut, the Sundance
Institute, Sigvald Thompson Prize for orchestral composition, and the
Composers Conference. She was Associate Professor of Music Composition
and Theory at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and the Hartt
School of Music/University of Hartford, and taught at the University of
Rhode Island.
Augusta Cecconi Bates has written over 300 compositions for small
ensembles, orchestras, choruses, instrumental and vocal soloists and
ensembles, 4 operas, including "Molly of the Mohawks" which has had over
a dozen performances since 2008. In 2021 her work "Pasticcio" Wind
Ensemble receive 1st Honorable Mention of The American Prize.
