Robert Dick is an extraordinary flutist, composer, teacher, and author
known for his innovative musical style. A unique blend of classical, world
music, electronic, and jazz genres characterizes his music. In 2014, the
National Flute Association honored Dick with its prestigious Lifetime
Achievement Award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the world
of music. The New York Times has lauded him, stating that his "technical
resources and imagination seem limitless," while JazzTimes hailed him as
"revolutionary." Robert Dick continues to inspire and innovate, leaving an
indelible mark on the world of music.
A pioneering figure in the world of music, Robert Dick revolutionized flute
playing with his invention of the "glissando headjoint." This innovative
custom flute modification allows players to achieve effects reminiscent of
the whammy bar on an electric guitar.
During his time at Yale, Robert wrote his first book, "THE OTHER FLUTE: A
Performance Manual of Contemporary Techniques," showcasing his deep
understanding and passion for contemporary music. His dedication led him to
earn a master's degree in composition, studying with esteemed figures such
as Morris, Bulant Arel, and Jacob Druckman. Robert Dick's contributions
have undoubtedly reshaped the possibilities of flute performance and
composition, cementing his legacy as a true trailblazer in the world of
music.

'Spark,' and Gene Pritsker's 'I Knew A Woman, from Poetic Subjects
Eternal,' plus music by Dan Cooper, Burton Goldstein, and Robert Voisey.
A champion of Art Song and contemporary music, Andrew White has

Every song composer should be so lucky with collaborators."

Call for Scores
Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame featuring violinist Orest Smovzh
Vox Novus is calling for one-minute pieces composed for solo violin.
Selected works will be premiered for Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame with violinist
Orest Smovzh. The performance will happen online in the beginning of 2025.
The theme to this Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame is for anything relating to punk
music. For Orest Smovzh, the possibility of short works resonates with the
raw simplicity of earlier punk and no wave music (the late 70s early 80s),
also some later noise music (specifically Japanese of the 90s). He often
describes these pieces as works that "resist elaboration, compress
dramaturgy, or freeze in a brief moment". Orest also usually calls them
"condensed music"
To summarize:
1) Punk rock inspiration
2) Condensed pieces that compress everything the composer wants to do in
one minute.
Only works one-minute in length for violin will be considered. Deadline for
works is December 6th, 2024
