Subject: [game_edu] Request for Assistance: Game Studies Course

Hello list members,

My name is Matt Archer. I’m a professor of anthropology at Sierra College , located just outside of Sacramento , CA . I’m writing this brief email to request a bit of assistance in starting a game studies course at my college.

In general, I would like to propose a course to our curriculum committee on Game Studies, which would survey the literature in that emerging field, address methods for researching games, and to use that theoretical and research based background to work towards a game design project. I’m excited about the idea and would love to get it “on the books” here. The challenge is that I have been informed that I will be unable to do so unless I can demonstrate that such a class exists as a lower division class somewhere else in California (though perhaps beyond California might work as well). I’ve looked at many colleges. But to search every department’s lower-division course listings at every college in California is a daunting task. I’m hoping that someone participating in this list might have knowledge of a related lower-division course which I can use to demonstrate the viability and transferability of the course I’d like to propose.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this request. And thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Be well.

Matt Archer
