Ricardo-

13-year-old Aristides (handle: "Cheese") beat out bench jockey biochemists in the CASP8 competition playing the Foldit protein-structure-prediction game (molecular modelling type). Cheese garnered first place and won out over the sophisticated reasonings of PhDs by utilizing simple visual-spatial judgments.
His claim to fame: "...it just looked right".

The FoldIt team at U Washington's Animation Research Labs collects "data to find out if humans' pattern-recognition and puzzle-solving abilities make them more efficient than existing computer programs at pattern-folding tasks"....with an aim to "teach human strategies to computers" (rather than the other way around).

Back in February, the Baker Lab team submitted game analysis findings to Nature. Contact Seth or Zoran (PI).

Subject: [game_edu] Virtual worlds and multiple intelligences

Hello All!

I'm writing a book chapter on using Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory and applying it to Virtual Worlds (VWs).

The reviewers say that I have to make a stronger connection with past works in MI and video games. While my ideas are more focused on VWs, they also want MI and games. All the same, however, to my knowledge, while there are video games used to teach or showcase MI theory, I've not come across a book or journal where it's been used in the analysis or design of a video game. I've really drawn a blank in my past research on MI used anywhere near VWs or video games and thus it's absence in my chapter contribution.

But to be sure, does anyone have any leads on this kind of literature? Has anyone published anything like this in the past? I want to be sure I cover all past intersections and studies of MI, VW, and games for my chapter!

Thanks in advance,

Ricardo Rademacher, PhD
